Does Christianity approve of a man living with a woman when they are not married?

  1. All of the Christian religions with which I am familiar prohibit sexual contact between men and women outside of marriage.

But Christians - like Muslims - do things that their religion teaches are wrong.

  2. Christianity generally teaches that extramarital sexual contact is forbidden and this is why living together before marriage is considered ethically objectionable. However, as America has become increasingly secularized, my guess is that a majority of people in the country do not find living together before marriage to be objectionable. My guess is that most Christians, however, still find this to be wrong, but many do it anyway.

Cheating/affairs are almost universally regarded as morally objectionable.

  3. Thanks for your answers. I appreciate it. Also i want to add that we have in Islam "Big Sins" which means that they are totally unaccepted because it can destroy the society. For example, if a husband or a wife cheated each other in Islam they should be killed, do you have the same in Christianity? and what do you mean by All of the Christian religions? is there more than one?

  4. Hello Sumyia,

In Islam there are many different interpretations (Hanbali, Salafi, Ismaili, etc.) In Christianity there are also many different interpretations of Christianity (Catholicism, Orthodox, Protestant, Baptist, etc.).

In most interpretations of Christianity adultery is considered a very serious sin, I think because is destroys the trust between spouses and family relationships. But adulterers are not put to death.

In my religion a person who commits adultery is usually excommunicated - this means that they are no longer considered part of the community and cannot actively participate in worship. They can return but they must go through a long process of repenting and trying to fix their sin.
